Iraq's national culture: Babylon

The archaeological site of Babylon is commonly referred to as the cradle of civilization. According to academics, the damage wrought on the site since the turn of the 20th century — from the construction of railroads, military bases, and oil pipelines — is part of its evolutional political significance to the Iraqi nation-state.
