In Syria, the United States and Turkey continue to collide over a Kurdish militia called the People's Protection Units, or YPG. To Turkey, the YPG is an extension of the PKK, which has launched a decades-long insurgency against Ankara inside its border. For Washington, the militia is the most effective partner in the fight against Islamic State.
